Emma Roberts stars as Chanel, the Queen of Kappa House, a particularly evil sorority on the Wallace University campus. Twenty years after the death of a pledge in 1995, the current class are facing a serial killer of their own.
The show is a Pretty Little Liars-type mystery of trying to figure out who it is that’s dressed as the devil. Meanwhile, new pledge Grace (Skyler Samuels) just wants to make the sorority house more like the one her dead mom enjoyed. One of empowerment and good times. Which won’t happen as long as Chanel is in charge. Jamie Lee Curtis stars as Dean Munsch, who is also out to get the sorority, while Gigi (Nasim Pedrad), the National head of the sorority, is trying to save it even though she’s stuck in the ‘90s. The role of Chanel was clearly written for Emma Roberts, and she naturally kills it. A surprise performance came from Lea Michele, who plays a new pledge who wears a neck brace, and is absolutely insane yet charming. She was the one I was expecting the least out of, but was pleasantly surprised by what she gave. The show itself is classic Murphy, with sharp, witty writing, plenty of gore, and everything highly stylized. The fashion is spectacular, the house immaculate, and Murphy continues to be unafraid to go where most other network shows wouldn’t. I’m mostly happy that this show wasn’t a disappointment after how high my expectations were, and even though the first episode was two hours, I already can’t wait until next week. Get on it. Immediately. You will not want to miss out on this one. Scream Queens airs Tuesdays at 9pm on Fox.
