The writing was clever and funny, especially for a pilot. It felt real and as original as a comedy can be these days. The final story was a 70th birthday party themed as a funeral, which I really adored.
While it does feel a little Modern Family-esque, I think it’s original enough that it will strongly stand on its own two feet (and maybe give us something new since Modern Family has sort of run its course). It had a heartwarming feel to it, and a lot of tender moments among the comedy. It’s rare for me to like a new comedy, especially in the pilot, but I really enjoyed it and look forward to watching more of it. Life in Pieces airs Mondays at 8.30pm on CBS.
